You will often hear me say…
Be Still and Go Within
This principal is key to our personal growth and development journey. It is the necessary framework from which we can connect with our Soul’s inner wisdom; what I like to call our personal Truth.
It is where we intentionally disconnect from the influences of the outside world, with the sole purpose of connecting with the most important person there is, but so many ignore, and that person is You!
It is about nurturing and cultivating a deeper relationship with Self, while stripping away the years of conditioning and outside influences.
A process of revealing the truth of what you believe in, what you need to thrive and who you are at your core.
Ultimately, it is a journey of self-discovery and of finding your voice, hearing it so pure and clear.
Why is this so important?
Establishing a regular practice to be still and go within leads to:
- Deeper understanding of your core needs
- Connecting more easily with your personal Truth and beliefs
- Cultivating a deeper relationship of Trust with Self
- Speaking your personal Truth with more confidence
- Creating healthy boundaries in your relationships
- Aligning with the most authentic version of you at a Soul level
- Living a more authentic life, grounded in personal power
How to Be Still and Go Within?
There are a number of ways to find stillness and spend time in personal reflection. Here are a few ideas to get you started:
Pause and Ask
This is as simple as it sounds and it can be done anywhere. Take a moment each day to pause and check in with yourself.
Take three slow, deep breaths to bring you into the present moment and then ask yourself a question. Trust whatever answer arises first rather than overthinking it. Intuition rises to the surface to meet you. Trust in that.
Here are a few examples of questions to help you begin:
- How am I feeling, in this moment?
- Why do I feel this way?
- What do I need to give myself, in this moment?
- Is this what I really want?
- Does saying yes to this feel supportive or draining?
Meditate
Similar to Pause and Ask, meditation is an invitation to deepen the practice and spend as little or as much time needed, connecting in with Self.
Meditation can be done in silence, with music or using a guided meditation. There is no one right way, only the way that works for you. If you are new to mediation, experiment to find what best supports you.
Seating upright when meditating is recommended as it alerts your body and mind to be focused and fully present.
Keeping a journal and pen nearby is also wise for two reasons. First, if you find your mind wandering or worried about the things you “should’ be doing, write them down so you can free your mind, knowing they won’t be forgotten. Second, you might want to write down the intuitive insights received while meditating.
Lastly, create sacred space. If you are unfamiliar with how to do this, you can read about it in my previous blog post Conscious Connections.
A few tools to get you started…
A simple to use free app that I really like is Insight Timer. It has flexibility and lots of great meditation options such as a timer, music and guided meditations.
Utilize the questions mentioned in Pause and Ask or come up with your own to use during your meditation. You might be wondering…I thought meditation is about emptying my mind and thinking about nothing. While this is in part true, remember that we are using this time to connect with your personal Truth. This practice is about letting everything fall away, while inviting your intuitive voice to come through. So, asking a question before you begin your meditation, invites your intuitive messages to rise to meet you.
If you prefer a little more structure, you can refer to a meditation that I wrote out in my Conscious Connections blog post or if you prefer to be guided, I recorded a meditation that you can download here.
Journal
Grab your journal, pen and create your Sacred Space.
Take three slow, deep breaths to bring you into the present moment and then write your question at the top of the page. Begin writing whatever comes through and continue writing without concern or care for grammar, spelling or making sense of it. Allow the messages to flow through your pen and onto the paper without judgement.
Once the writing feels complete, take a moment to breathe and then read the written messages.
Putting it into Practice
These are just a few ways to Be Still and Go Within. The key here is to find what works well for you and commit to a regular practice. A regular practice strengthens your connection to Self and increases your intuition, the same way exercising regularly builds muscle and physical strength.
It helps you to tap into your inner wisdom leading to living an abundant, consciously aware and authentic life.
